Any electrical work must be done by a qualified electrician. But if you are handy with smaller household repairs, please follow all the safety precautions.
Before starting any electrical work, make sure to switch off the main power supply. Let everybody know in the house that the power is OFF for the repair work. Otherwise, someone may accidentally switch ON the mains supply and cause a serious safety problem.
While working with electric wires there may be chances of an electric spark. These sparks can be very harmful to the eyes. Covering your eyes during electric work is a must. Also, wearing long sleeve shirt, gloves and thick-soled shoes is advised.
Check for live wires with a tester before starting work. Make sure live wires are not live while you will be working on them.
You need the right tools for properly and safely performing any work. Doing electric repair work without proper tools should be avoided. Some of the most common tools are Voltage Tester, Wire Cutter, Plier, Multimeter etc.
Check your work thoroughly after completion. Make sure there is no loose connection left, slightly pull the wires to make sure they are tightly placed. Any loose connection in an electrical circuit may cause a spark in future.
